Benha University – Faculty of Commerce Organizes a Workshop on “Patents and Their Role in Supporting Scientific Research and Entrepreneurship”

As part of Benha University’s commitment to supporting innovation and entrepreneurship and promoting a culture of intellectual property protection among its members, the Cultural Salon at the Faculty of Commerce organized a workshop entitled:

“Patents and Their Role in Supporting Scientific Research and Entrepreneurship,”
held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Al-Wathiq Billah Abdel-Monem Hall for Scientific Discussions.

The workshop was held under the patronage of:
Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy – President of the University
Prof. Gehan Abdel Hady – Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research
Prof. Magdy Meligy Abdel Hakim – Dean of the Faculty of Commerce

The workshop was delivered by:
Prof. Ayman Samir – Executive Director of the Innovation, Technology Transfer and Marketing Center
Prof. Mohamed Khairy – Professor and Head of the Department of Food Industries, Faculty of Agriculture
Prof. Ahmed Zakaria Afifi – Director of the University’s Patent Office

Workshop Topics:

  • Introduction to intellectual property and its importance as a legal framework for protecting the rights of creators and innovators.
    • Types of intellectual property, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, industrial designs, and trade secrets.
    • The role of patents in supporting scientific research by protecting new ideas and encouraging researchers to transform their studies into applicable innovations.
    • The importance of intellectual property in entrepreneurship, serving as a foundation for converting innovative ideas and research projects into competitive startup companies.
    • The role of Benha University's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center in supporting innovators and providing technical and legal consultations for researchers and students to register their inventions.
    • Guides and manuals explaining the procedures and mechanisms for patent registration and how to protect and commercially market innovations.

At the conclusion of the workshop, Prof. Ayman Samir emphasized that the Innovation, Technology Transfer and Marketing Center at Benha University provides full support to all university members—including faculty, researchers, and students—whether in preparing patent application files or completing the official registration procedures with the Egyptian Patent Office. This contributes to strengthening the university’s role in supporting scientific research and community development.
